What is the self-employment tax rate for 2026?
15.3% on 92.35% of net earnings: 12.4% Social Security up to the $184,500 wage base, and 2.9% Medicare on all earnings, plus 0.9% Additional Medicare above $200,000 for single filers.
What is the QBI deduction?
Up to 20% of qualified business income from a sole proprietorship, partnership or S corporation. Above $201,750 of taxable income for single filers ($403,500 joint) it phases in limits based on wages paid and property held, and service businesses lose it.
When are estimated payments due?
15 April, 15 June and 15 September of the tax year, and 15 January of the next year. Pay at least 100% of last year’s tax (110% if your income was over $150,000) to avoid a penalty.
